The element has a sorption agent that can sorb, under vacuum, a working agent in a vapor form, which evaporates from liquid amount of the working agent. The sorption agent and an evaporator region are surrounded by a multilayer film (1). A shutoff device keeps the working agent vapor to flow to the sorption agent, before an initiation of a cooling process. A structural material (2) conducts the working agent vapor up to the sorption agent, and keeps one centimeter square flow cross section open for the working agent vapor after the start of the cooling element. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for producing a cooling element (2) a method for starting the cooling function of the cooling element (3) a method for utilizing a cooling element.
