Disclosed is the use of an agonist of the high affinity CGRP receptor for treating a human subject for lipid accumulation in skeletal muscle or liver, wherein the agonist is present in an amount effective to preferentially stimulate activity of a high affinity CGRP receptor compared to the metabolic amylin receptor, and to stimulate tissue lipolysis, wherein the agonist is CGRP-1.
