A disposable diaper that does not cause contamination of the wearer's ski n by bodily wastes. The disposable diaper (1) has a skin contact sheet strip (32b) provided on the inner face side of a liquid permeable top sheet (32). Openings (38, 39) for allowing bodily wastes to pass through them toward th e top sheet (32) are formed in the skin contact sheet strip (32b), at positi ons in the front-rear direction (A) of the sheet strip (32b). Side sections (40) of the sheet strip (32b), which side sections (40) are located on both sides in the lateral direction (B) of the openings (38, 39), are provided wi th elastic members (37) extended in a stretched condition in the front-rear direction (A). Leakage prevention dams (58) are formed on the outer sides in the lateral direction (B) of the sheet strip (32b). At a position between a free edge section and a base edge section of each dam (58), the side sectio n (40) of the sheet strip (32b) is joined to the dam (58). At the center in the front-rear direction (A) of the sheet strip (32b), the sheet strip (32b) is not joined to the dams (58).
