<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize deterioration in travel performance by specifying a failure part by detecting failure at an early stage. <P>SOLUTION: This automatic transmission repeatedly detects whether or not the failure is caused in a friction element when operating a vehicle, and starts control for specifying the failure-caused friction element when a vehicle speed reduces to a predetermined value or less after detecting that the failure is caused in the friction element (S1 and S3), and controls a shift by using only a usable shift stage (S14, S16, S25, S27, S36, S38 and S39), by determining the useable shift stage based on the specified friction element, when the failure-caused friction element is specified (S4, S13, S15, S24, S26, S35 and S37). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
