PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast receiver and a broadcast reception method which allow an up/down channel selection operation meeting a user's request to be performed by regulating a rule of up/down channel selection which considers the case that a plurality of broadcast having the same three-digit channel numbers can be received. SOLUTION: In the broadcast receiver wherein branch numbers (0), (1) and (2) different in broadcasting channel are added to a channel number (011) in the case that a plurality of broadcasting channels to which the same channel numbers (011) are added are received, the channel selection operation is performed in the ascending order of the branch numbers (0), (1) and (2) of the same channel numbers (011), when watched in the same channel numbers (011), in a state that up channel selection for broadcasting channels is requested.
