PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a differential transmitter which will not misrecognize a transmission path as "free", when it is "busy". SOLUTION: The differential transmitter installed at each of a plurality of nodes performing signal transmission by using a transmission path 5 having two lines of determined polarity comprises a differential line driver 81 connected with the transmission path 5, a differential line receiver 82 connected with the transmission path 5, a serial transmission interface 61 connected with the differential line driver 81 and the differential line receiver 82, a section 63 for detecting the output from the differential line receiver 82 delivered toward the serial transmission interface 61, and a timer 62 operating, based on the detection results from the detecting section 63.
