PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a structure for an image display element having high reflectance and contrast. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a structure for an image display element comprises a coating process for coating the surface of a substrate 1 provided with a plurality of recessed parts arranged at a prescribed space with a plastic deformable coat material 2 so as to leave a void in each recessed part, a foaming process for forming voids corresponding to the plurality of recessed parts in a coat material 20 21 coating the surface of the substrate 1 due to the expansion of gas in the voids, and a peeling process for peeling coat materials 22, 23 on which the voids are formed from the surface of the substrate 1.
