The method involves producing an ear impression (10) as a part of an auditory canal, and scanning a surface of the ear impression. Graphic ear impression data is obtained. Graphic manufacturing data of a shell (11) is obtained based on the ear impression data and a machine-specific parameter of a preset production machine. Images of the manufacturing data and the ear impression data supported over each other are optically represented. Differences between the images are graphically represented during optical representation. The shell is modified based on the differences.
