An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panel and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to compensate an effective refractive index of a liquid crystal layer in synchronization with the change of a cell gap, thereby uniforming the retardation of the liquid crystal layer and minimizing the variation of transmittance. A thin film transistor substrate(200) includes pixel electrodes and common electrodes in each pixel region. The pixel electrodes and the common electrodes are configured to form a horizontal electric field. A color filter substrate(300) is bound to the thin film transistor substrate with a cell gap therebetween. The color filter substrate includes a common electrode pattern(310) for forming a vertical electric field together with the pixel electrode. A liquid crystal layer(400) is formed between the thin film transistor substrate and the color filter substrate. An effective refractive index of the liquid crystal layer is varied in proportion to an intensity of the vertical electric field according to change of the cell gap. The liquid crystal layer has uniform retardation by compensating the effective refractive index of the liquid crystal layer in inverse proportion to the change of the cell gap. |
