LASH ADJUSTER

A lash adjuster in which a screw rod can be repeatedly held pushed in a housing and which is low in cost. The lash adjuster (1) has a tubular housing (14) whose upper end is open, a screw rod (15) having on its outer periphery a male screw thread (19) engaging with a female screw thread (20) formed on the inner periphery of the housing (14), and a spring (16) for urging the screw rod (15) in the direction in which the rod projects. An arm (6) of a valve gear is supported at an upper end portion (24) of the screw rod (15). A sleeve (17) whose both ends are open is fixed to the upper end of the housing (14). A pair of circumferentially extending opposite slits (26, 26) is formed in the sleeve (17). A circumferential groove (29) corresponding to the slits (26) is formed in the outer periphery of the screw rod (15). The lash adjuster further includes a stopper pin (18) having a pair of opposite sections (27, 27) and a connection section (28), and the opposite sections (27) are engaged with the slits (26) and the circumferential groove (29). The construction allows the screw rod (15) to be held pushed in the housing (14).
