<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic surgical stapler equipped with a staple cartridge, an anvil, and a cutting member having a cutting surface. <P>SOLUTION: The cutting member relatively moves with respect to the anvil and the staple cartridge. In at least an embodiment, one of the anvil and the staple cartridge defines a slot part, which is configured to receive at least a part of the cutting member and to guide the cutting member when the cutting member is moved relative to the anvil and the staple cartridge. In these embodiments, the slot part defines a path having a linear part and/or a curved part.
