PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching element which reduces the value of on-resistance causing heat generation upon current passing. SOLUTION: The switching element includes a pair of external electrodes 10 and 20, an internal electrode 30 disposed between the pair of external electrodes 10 and 20, and solid electrolytes 40 and 45 which are disposed between the internal electrode 30 and the pair of external electrodes 10 and 20 and are capable of conducting ions of the internal electrode 30 or of the external electrodes 10 and 20. In the solid electrolytes 40 and 45, when a voltage of a given or higher level is applied to at least two electrodes out of the pair of external electrodes and the internal electrode, ion metals 50 and 55 are moved to be aligned between the electrodes to which the voltage is applied.
