PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intake device for an engine capable of making a constitution compact while not requiring a time and labor of assembling and enhancing a vibration-proof property. SOLUTION: An intake manifold 10 is provided with a plurality of branch pipes 14 communicating with an intake port 4a of the side surface of a cylinder head 4 above a surge tank 11, and an air cleaner 20 is provided with an air cleaner case 21 having a bottom wall 22 for connecting the branch pipe 14 in an engine cylinder row direction and a side wall 23 integrally formed with the bottom wall 22; and an air cleaner cover 31 for closing an opening of the air cleaner case. On the air cleaner 20, an extended housing 20B extending from one end side in the engine cylinder row direction to the outside, and on the lower surface of the extended housing, a downstream opening 28 opened to a lower part is formed. On the surge tank 11, an intake upstream 12 is provided, and the downstream opening 28 and the intake upstream part 12 communicate with each other through a duct 40 below the extended housing part 20B.
