PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester, by which oligomers distilled out in a polycondensation process can efficiently be removed to the outside of the system to economically produce the polyester. SOLUTION: This method for producing the polyester containing isophthalic acid and azelaic acid as dicarboxylic acid components and containing 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol as a glycol component in an esterification process and a polycondensation process is characterized in that 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol is charged in a distillate produced in the polycondensation process to dissolve insoluble components in the distillate and then removing the distillate.
