PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic tool changer requiring only a short time for a mutual attaching/detaching operation of first and second units, and having no accidental drop of the second unit even when power supply is stopped. SOLUTION: In this automatic tool changer, a shaft part 6 is advanced or retreated by a driving part 3 provided in the first unit 1 to rotate a cam 7 engaged to the shaft part 6, and the second unit 8 is attached/detached to/from the first unit 1. The driving part 3 has a first permanent magnet plate 4 to be rotated by a motor 30, and a second permanent magnet plate 5 arranged oppositely to the first permanent magnet plate 4 and provided to only advance/retreat in an axis direction of the shaft part 6. When the first and second permanent magnet plates 4 and 5 are mutually opposed at the same pole, the shaft part 6 is advanced together with the second permanent magnet plate 5 by repulsive force. When the first and second permanent magnet plates 4 and 5 are mutually opposed at different poles, the shaft part 6 is retreated together with the second permanent magnet plate 5 by suction force.
