<p>A large capacity compressor employing CO<SUB>2</SUB> as working gas. The multistage compressor comprises an enclosed housing, a plurality of compression mechanisms provided in the enclosed housing, and a motor for driving the plurality of compression mechanisms wherein at least one compression mechanism is a scroll compression mechanism and gas including a supercritical state is employed as working gas. The scroll compression mechanism includes a fixed scroll having a spiral lap formed on one side of an end plate, and a turning scroll (116) provided, on one side of the end plate (117), with a spiral lap (118) which is combined with the lap of the fixed roll to form a spiral compression chamber. Working gas introduced into the compression chamber is compressed as the turning scroll (116) turns and following relation L=Worb is satisfied between the thickness Worb of the end plate (117) of the turning scroll (116) and the height L of the lap (118) of the turning scroll (116).</p> |
