A data transmission method using a codebook in a communication system using multiple antennas is provided to minimize the amount of feedback information transmitted from a receiver to a transmitter and maximize a data transmission rate. A memory unit(140) includes a precoding codebook(160) including a plurality of sets of precoders and a feedback codebook including a plurality of sets of entities. A transmission controller(170) extracts an entity according to a feedback index received from a receiver from the feedback codebook, selects a precoder from the precoding codebook by using the entity, and transmits a precoder index according to the selected precoder to the receiver. A precoding unit(120) performs precoding by using the selected precoder. The size of the precoding codebook is larger than that of the feedback codebook.
