PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator attaining the high efficiency and energy saving of a refrigerating system and preventing the leakage of an inflammable refrigerant. SOLUTION: The refrigerator is provided with a refrigerant circuit connecting a compressor 131, a condenser 132, a pressure reducing device 133 and an evaporator 134 in series. A selector valve 137 is provided between the condenser 132 and the pressure reducing device 133, and a by-pass circuit 139 serving for communication from the selector valve 137 to the compressor 131 is provided. A high-temperature and high-pressure liquid refrigerant is thereby released to flow directly into the compressor 131 from the condenser 132. Consequently, a thermal load at the evaporator 134 is reduced, and a pressure rise is suppressed to enhance efficiency in cooling operation and to reduce a possibility of refrigerant leakage into the refrigerator.
