Disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which is good in high temperature storage characteristics even when it is charged to a high voltage. Also disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte solution which enables to obtain such a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery. Specifically disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte solution containing a nonaqueous solvent, an electrolyte salt and a sulfonate salt. The sulfonate salt is a compound having a branched ether skeleton in a molecule. Also specifically disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprising a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator and the nonaqueous electrolyte solution. This nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is good in high temperature storage characteristics even when it is charged to a high voltage.
