<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for welding a workpiece capable of joining ends of the workpiece by welding without flash. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus includes the first and second holding mechanisms 10 and 20 which hold the outer peripheral surface of a workpiece 8 with little gap in such a way as to be movable in the longitudinal direction and has contact surfaces 11 and 21, respectively, having an angle equal to the angle of inclination of the end surfaces 8a of the workpiece 8, the first and second parallel movement mechanisms 40 and 50 moving the first and second holding mechanisms 10 and 20, respectively, in such a direction that the contact surfaces 11 and 21 approach or separated from each other, a heating mechanism 30 moving between a heating position and a refuge position and a synchronized movement mechanism 60 moving the first and second holding mechanisms 10 and 20 synchronously in the direction along the contact surfaces 11 and 21, respectively. With the contact surfaces 11 and 21 of the first and second holding mechanisms 10 and 20 kept in contact with each other, the workpiece 8 is moved along the contact surfaces 11 and 21 so that the end surfaces 8a of the workpiece 8 are pressed mutually within the first and second holding mechanisms 10 and 20, resulting in prevention of flash at the ends of the workpiece 8. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
