PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a sign of a stall, and a detection engine control system, which are stable and highly reliable. SOLUTION: The method comprises: an index calculation step for calculating an index evaluating a stall risk (stall risk evaluation index); a time averaging processing step for performing time averaging processing for each stall risk evaluation index acquired in response to a pressure sensor; a circumferential averaging processing step for calculating a circumferential average value of a stall risk evaluation index after the time average processing acquired in response to the pressure sensor; a smoothing processing step performing smoothing processing with respect to the circumferential average value of the stall risk evaluation index; a delay correction step correcting delay in response of the circumferential average value of the stall risk evaluation index after the smoothing processing; and a sign detection step for detecting a sign of stall based on the circumferential average value of the stall risk evaluation index after the correction of delay in response.
