PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a particulate semiconductor fluorescent substance having not only excellent heat resistance but also electroconductivity, and including nitride particles in good crystallinity, having a quantum well structure and/or a p-n junction. SOLUTION: The particulate semiconductor fluorescent substance is obtained by forming a semiconductor crystal having the p-n junction on the surface of a base material particle. The semiconductor crystal may have a structure having a double hetero junction or a structure having a quantum well structure. The base material particle is preferably a single crystal particle, and more preferably a tabular Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>particle.
