PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air bag device reducing an impact with respect to an object present in the inflation and deployment direction of an air bag without requiring complicated and expensive detection means and control means. SOLUTION: The air bag device is provided with the air bag 3; an inflator 2 for supplying inflation gas to the air bag 3; a tether belt 3f provided inside the air bag 3 and connected to an occupant restraint face 3b with respect to an occupant on the vehicle body side in the deployed state; a vent hole 8; and a vent hole opening/closing means 7 connected to the tether belt 3f, closing the vent hole 8 when the air bag 3 is not deployed and when it is fully deployed, and opening the vent hole 8 in the intermediated deployment and expansion position of the tether belt 3f.
