PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a caulking method of calking a hub unit by preventing deformation of a flange. SOLUTION: In the calking method, an oblique contact type rolling bearing 2 is externally fitted to an intermediate part in the axial direction of a hub wheel 1 in which the outside diameter of one shaft end side is larger than the outside diameter on the other shaft end side, a flange 5 outwardly in the radial direction is provided on one shaft end side of the large diameter, and a caulking cylindrical part 6 is provided on the other shaft end side of the small diameter, and the cylindrical part is caulking-deformed outwardly in the radial direction so as to be pressed against an end face of an inner ring 8 of the bearing to lock the bearing and the preload is applied. When caulking the cylindrical part, a caulking-receiving tool is placed on the flange side shaft end face of the hub wheel in an area axially opposite to the applying direction of the axial load generated when performing the caulking.
