An orthopedic jig 10 and pins 14 therefore are disclosed that allow the pins 14 to be preloaded into apertures 12 through the jig 10 before the jig 10 is positioned at a desired location with respect to a bone 16 during an orthopedic surgical procedure. At least one of the pin 14 and/or jig 10 includes a retention mechanism 30 whereby the pin 14 can be inserted into the bore 12 and releasably restrained therein until the jig 10 is placed in the selected position and the pins 14 driven into the bone 16.
