A device for sensing lack of water and a steam cleaner having the same are provided to sense the level of water stored in a water container, stop the operation of motor and boiler members, and prevent accidents by installing a sensor member between a compression part and a water container to sense the water pressure and generating a control signal of informing a user of a water shortage state. A device for sensing lack of water comprises pipe line members(30,32), a compression part(50), a sensor member(40), and a controller(70). The pipe line members transfer water of a water container to a boiler member(36) through a pump member(34). The compression part is connected with the pipe line members to raise the water pressure in the pipe line members. The sensor member is installed between the compression part and the water container to sense the water pressure in the pipe line members. The controller receives a measurement value of the sensor member and generates a control signal of informing a user of a water shortage state. The compression part has an inner passage which is narrower than the diameter of the pipe line member. Combining grooves are formed on two sides of the compression part, and the pipe line members are inserted in the combining grooves. A display part(72) is connected with the controller to inform a user of a water shortage state.
