<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module capable of cheaply protecting an excitation light source. <P>SOLUTION: An optical module 1 is equipped with: an amplifying optical fiber 10; an optical coupler 20; an excitation light source 31; a delaying optical fiber 32; an amplified light source 41; an optical fiber 42; a photodetector 51; an optical fiber 52; an optical isolator 61; an optical isolator 62; and a controller 91. Since the delaying optical fiber 32 with a necessary length is inserted between the excitation light source 31 and the optical coupler 20, a timing for controlling an output of the excitation light source 31 after detecting a returning light by the photodetector 51 becomes earlier than a timing for carrying out an incidence of the returning light to the excitation light source 31. Therefore, a time duration for carrying out the incidence of the returning light to the excitation light source 31 is shortened, and a damage summation time duration of the excitation light source 31 decreases.
