PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic component having high resistance value (ESR) and enabling arbitrary adjustment of the resistance value (ESR), and to provide a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method has a ceramic laminate forming step of forming a ceramic laminate 2 having an inner electrode layer 22 containing a base metal and a ceramic insulating layer 21, wherein the end surface of the inner electrode layer 22 is exposed; a terminal electrode layer forming step of forming a terminal electrode layer 3 containing a noble metal so as to cover one part of the end surface of the inner electrode layer 22 on the exposed surface of the inner electrode layer 22 of the ceramic laminate 2; and an oxide insulating region forming step of executing oxidation in an oxidized atmosphere to oxidize a region not covered with the terminal electrode layer 3 of the end surface of the internal electrode 22 and forming the region into an oxide insulating region 22a.
