PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which reduces the variation width of charging potential, so that fogging can be effectively suppressed, and an image forming method using the same. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, a charging means is a charging means by a contact charging system, an electrophotographic photoreceptor is a single-layer electrophotographic photoreceptor containing a charge generating agent, a hole transport agent, an electron transport agent and a binder resin in one and the same layer, and an amine compound represented by general formula (1) is contained as the hole transport agent, wherein X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>are each independently a substituent such as butadienylbenzene.
