PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a method for producing a functional fiber material with functions such as antimicrobial activity and deodorizing ability by firmly attaching a material extracted from a plant to a fiber material. SOLUTION: A cotton material is soaked in a soaking liquid containing an extract from peony (scientific name: Paeonia lactiflora) having high antimicrobial and deodorizing effects among those derived from plants, and heated at a predetermined temperature (121°C) in a pressurized atmosphere in an autoclave, thus enabling the extract from peony to be firmly attached to the cotton material. Thereby, the functional fiber material excellent in antimicrobial and deodorizing effects and washing durability can be produced. Because the above extract to be attached to the cotton material is a plant-derived natural material, this functional fiber material has reduced irritation to the human skin.
