HORIZONTAL CONTINUOUS CASTING METHOD AND HORIZONTAL CONTINUOUS CASTING DEVICE

Cooling rate is made uniform at the upper and lower portions of a mold in horizontal continuous casting, thus producing an ingot in which difference in texture is small between the upper and lower portions. In the horizontal continuous casting method where molten metal(M) supplied from a tundish (10) is cast in the horizontal direction from the outlet of a mold (40), continuous casting is carried out while the pressure (P<SUB>A</SUB>) of a gas space (G) formed in the vicinity of inlet of the mold (40) is pulsated between a maximum pressure (P<SUB>max</SUB>) equal to 1-1.2 time the static pressure (P) generated by the molten metal height (H) in the tundish (10) and a minimum pressure (P<SUB>min</SUB>) lower than the static pressure (P). The pulsation can be generated by discharging gas (G2) from the gas space (G) intermittently, or by switching between supply of gas (G1) to the gas space (G) and discharge of the gas (G2) therefrom.
