<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optimal composition for metal machining with excellent robustness, preferably a heat-resistant superalloy, for a sialon-based ceramic for metal cutting tool application. <P>SOLUTION: This invention relates to a ceramic material which is based on a heat-resistant hard phase containing β-sialon (Si<SB>6-z</SB>Al<SB>z</SB>O<SB>z</SB>N), α-sialon, TiN, Ti(C, N), or TiC and a grain boundary amorphous or partially crystalline phase and contains yttrium. The β-sialon phase has a z value of 0.3-0.8. The quantity of the heat-resistant hard phase is 10-20 mass%. The material is especially useful as a cutting tool insert for machining of a heat-resistant superalloy (HRSA). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
