The device for abseiling of persons from buildings and suchlike has an abseil pulley (3) driven by the lowering force on the device via the rope (4) with a wrap angle of two and a half turns. The resulting load torque is transferred as braking moment via two spring-loaded disk brakes (5) to the housing (1) of the device which when required can be influenced by positive action of the suspended person by means of an eccentric (9) until temporary stopping of the abseiling motion.
