A heterocycle-containing organometallic complex is provided to improve properties of lifetime, efficiency and consumption electric power of an organic light emitting device by using the organometallic complex having electric stability and high electron transporting ability as an organic film-forming material. A heterocycle-containing organometallic complex represented by the formula(1) is useful as an organic film-forming material for an organic light emitting device, wherein R1 to R11 are each independently hydrogen atom, cyano group, hydroxyl group, nitro group, halogen atom, optionally substituted C1-C20 alkyl group, optionally substituted C1-C20 alkoxy group, optionally substituted C6-C20 aryl group, optionally substituted C7-C20 arylalkyl group, optionally substituted C2-C20 alkylalkoxy group, optionally substituted C7-C20 arylalkoxy group, optionally substituted C6-C20 aryl amino group, optionally substituted C1-C20 alkylamino group, optionally substituted C6-C20 arylamino group, or optionally substituted C2-C20 hetero ring group; M is Be, Mg or Ca; X is N or P; and Y is O or S. An organic light emitting device contains an organic film containing the heterocycle-containing organometallic complex represented by the formula(1) between a first electrode and a second electrode. Further, the organic film is an electron transmitting layer or an electron injecting layer.
