A tower suitable for use with a wind turbine comprises a first portion 114 or hollow column and a second portion or column 116 spaced therefrom e.g. telescoping one in the other. The inner member either forms or carries a float 172 e.g. polystyrene blocks or an air tank whereby the inner portion is moveable relative to the outer by movement of the float by fluid introduced to or withdrawn from the space between the portions. There may be means for introducing or extracting fluid from the space between the portions which may be duct work carried on or accessed from a platform and there are means 166, 170 to relatively lock the portions. The alignment of the portions may be controlled by hydraulic rollers and the portions may be of metal and/or concrete. The method involves introducing/extracting fluid to alter the relative position of the moving portion. |
