Disclosed is an electric fence energiser (1) with an output (9 and 10) configured to be connected to a load (11). The energiser includes an inductive element (4 and 5), an energy storage element (3), and a rectifying element (8). The inductive element is connected to the load, and the energy storage element is configured to transfer energy to the inductive element. The rectifying element is configured to prevent the transfer of energy from the inductive element into the load while transfer of energy from the energy storage element to the inductive element occurs.
