1,218,309. Centripetal extruders. SIDEL. 14 Aug., 1969 [2 Sept., 1968], No. 40747/69. Heading B5A. To improve the extrusion pressure in a centripetal or rotary-plate extrusion machine, one or more propellers are provided coaxially of the rotor between the rotor and the extrusion orifice. As shown, a single propeller 32 having blades 33 is driven independently of rotor 3 by a motor 12 and shaft 11. Immediately upstream of the propeller is a ring 37 fixed to stator 2 and carrying counter-blades 38. Sets of fins 22, 23, 29 are carried by rotor 3 and sets 20, 21 by stator 2, all such sets being arranged in circles about axis 4. Cavity 13 forming the shear gap is eccentric with respect to axis 4 and of a radial extent less than that of the rotor. Heaters 39- 41 are provided and temperature-controlled fluid may circulate within the hub of propeller 32. In a second embodiment, Figs. 2-6 (not shown), propellers (43-45) are arranged in series and fixed to rotor 3 and are associated with counter-blades (49-51) respectively, see also Figs. 5, 6 (not reproduced). Cooling fluid may be circulated by pipe (48). In examples the material extruded is PVC.
