A casting machine has a work-table 4, a mould mounted on the work table 4, the mould having a pair of members 11, 12 and a base 9, means 14, 15 for opening and closing the mould members, bearings 5, 6 supporting the work table 4 for rotation about a horizontal axis and means 7, 8 to rotate the work-table 4 through 180 degrees to permit the finished article to fall away from the opened inverted mould. Metal is poured into the closed mould through a gate 16 and the operator presses a starter button 24 which brings a timing relay (69) into action. When the metal has solidified the relay (69) operates a piston-and-cylinder 7, which rotates the work-table 4 via a rack 8 and pinion drive. After the work-table 4 has rotated through 90 degrees, the members 11, 12 of the mould are opened by pistons-and-cylinders 14, 15 but the casting remains attached to the mould base 9 by means of a pin (not shown) passing through the base 9 and attached to a piston-and-cylinder 17. The pin is retracted when the work-table 4 has passed through 180 degrees and the casting falls into a basket 26. The work-table 4 is rapidly returned to the original position (a blast of air from a nozzle 28 cleaning the mould) but is damped towards the end of its motion, the damping being accompanied by a talcing spray from a nozzle 29. The sequence of operations is controlled by a pneumatic circuit (see Fig. 5). |
