Provided is a method of detoxication of yperite by the use of haloalkane dehalogenases wherein said yperite is treated with at least one haloalkane dehalogenase selected from the group of enzymes EC 3.8.1.5, at the concentration of enzyme 1x10-6 to 1x100 moll-1 , at temperature from +10 degrees C to +70 degrees C and pH from 4 to 12 in liquid medium.
