A binary tablet is suitable for removal of radioactive iodine contamination from humans. The inner phase of a tablet contains coated iodide salt granules, the surface of which is encrusted by sodium-thiosulfate, followed by a slip-promoting agent preferably stearic acid. The coated granulate is dispersed in a polymeric carbohydrate containing external phase, that also contains a pharmaceutical inert carrier and known excipients. Utilization of alkali-iodides, alkaline-earth-iodides, their mixtures, and preferably of potassium-iodide is recommended. The components are molded into tablets, that have a mechanical strength of at least 90 kN. |
