PURPOSE: A de-interlacing device and a method thereof are provided to reflect a point where influences to an interpolation target pixel are different according to a distance to an adjacent pixel along an edge direction, thereby drastically improving picture quality. CONSTITUTION: An edge map is applied to a plurality of pixels. Vertical and horizontal gradient derivatives of an interpolation target pixel are obtained. The angle of the edge direction is obtained from the obtained gradient derivatives(S51).
