Power supply system for driving heat engine of e.g. passenger car, has converter mounted between accumulator and supercapacitor for charging supercapacitor, and electronic control unit for controlling converter and relays

The system has an alternator (6) for producing electrical energy when the alternator is driven by a heat engine. A cold starting relay (10) is mounted between an accumulator i.e. lead storage battery (2), and a starter (8), and another cold starting relay (14) is mounted between a supercapacitor (12) and the starter. A direct current to direct current converter (16) is mounted between the accumulator and the supercapacitor for charging the supercapacitor. An electronic control unit i.e. logic controller (18), controls the converter and the relays. An independent claim is also included for a method for supplying power to a heat engine of a vehicle.
