The method involves modulating ventilation flow based on temperature difference between an interior and an exterior of a room (36). The ventilation flow is linearly reduced when the temperature difference is higher than a threshold value and when the temperature difference is lower than another threshold value. The threshold values are modulated based on variations of the temperature difference from a predetermined time interval. One of the threshold values is reduced in the event where the temperature difference is higher than an additional threshold value. An independent claim is also included for an installation for ventilating a room, comprising a mechanical ventilation system.
