FIELD: physics; image processing. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to interferometric light modulators. The light modulator has an array which contains rows and columns of interferometric display elements, several array connection lines configured to transmit operating signals to the display elements, and several switches. Each inteferometric display element is divided into sub-rows of one or more sub-elements. Each connection line corresponds to a row of display elements.
