In a system for displaying items of information in at least two different forms on a plurality of display devices, an addressable memory 18, Fig. 1, has each item in each of the forms in which it is to be displayed stored in an identifiable address position, selecting means selects the form in which information is to be displayed on a given display device, and means responsive to the selecting means gates information in the selected form from address positions in the memory to control the display on the given display device. In the embodiment the display devices are cathode-ray tubes swept in synchronism and the information relates to stock exchange holdings and prices. One form consists of closing, open, high &c. prices for a list of stocks, Fig. 2 (not shown), and another form includes the holders of a particular stock. A "last price" form may be included, Fig. 4 (not shown). A displayed character is based on a dot matrix by selective intensity modulation of a near-vertical raster, Fig. 10 (not shown). General arrangement, Figs. 1, 8.-Magnetic drum memory 18, Fig. 1, is divided into sections, one for each form of information display, and each section has tracks corresponding to the number of cathode-ray tube displays. Gating circuit 12 is controlled from keyboard 20 and from a circuit 24. To permit an observer to notice easily a change in a particular item a "trends marker" is caused to blink by a circuit 30. Clock tracks on the memory drum give pulses to a counter 34 which may be used to address the drum or afford read-out therefrom. Change of listed stock is made from keyboard 20 via circuit 38 and the memory. Input information is of the types shown in Fig. 8; the first seven characters are identical. A character generator 62 converts from the input code into the video code required for character display. The circuits are described in further detail, Figs. 9A to 9Y (none shown). Separate types of information can appear on different displays. The invention may be applied to airline reservation information. Specification 1,178,749 is referred to. |
