ING hcF PORSCHE KG 31 July 1970 [1 Aug 1969] 37175/70 Headings B7A and B7V [Also in Division El] A pontoon bridge is assembled from a number of self-propelled pontoons 3, each of which carries either a main span 2<SP>11</SP> or a terminal span 2 equipped with a lift-up hinged ramp section 2<SP>1</SP>, the span 2 or 2<SP>11</SP> being in each case mounted on a turntable 11 and the pontoons being carried on extensible booms 6 which are pivotally mounted for luffing movement on a transport vehicle 4 with the spans directed in alignment with the longitudinal, the turntable 11 permitting the spans 2, 2<SP>11</SP> to be pivoted into positions at right-angles to the respective pontoons after the pontoons have been launched and manoeuvred under control of a driver into desired positions for assembly of the bridge with their bows 13 pointing upstream of any predominant water flow. The propulsion unit is preferably easily detachable and comprises an internalcombustion engine driving a water pump 21 which sucks in water from an inlet 29 on one side of the pontoon and drives it through a jet assembly 28 which has provision for varying the direction of the jet both vertically and horizontally so that the vehicle can be propelled with maximum efficiency and steered rapidly. The internal combustion engine is mounted in a sealed chamber and receives air for combustion from a snorkel arrangement (23, Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) which can be folded down when not required and which in its operative position provides a seat (26) for the driver. A control console (25) is also attached to the snorkel arrangement. |
