[Also in Division A4] A clamp comprises two pivoted jaw portions 3, 12 with jaws 1, 2 which are urged together by and spring 8 between the jaw portions and, when the clamp is opened by hand, a ball 11 falls under gravity from recesses 10, 10' and the jaw portions into further recesses 15, 15' to hold the jaws open. Insertion of an article to be clamped between the jaws moves the ball again into the recesses 10, 10' and the jaws grip the article under the pressure of the spring 8. The jaw portion 3 has a semi cylindrical member 9 with a flange 18 and the jaw portion 12 has an extending end portion 13 for supporting further articles. The clamp is usable as a clothes hanger. The jaw portion 3 has self sealing adhesive tape portions 4, 5 and screw holes 6, 7 for mounting the clamp on a support. When the clamp is supported otherwise than in a vertical position the ball 11 is urged downwardly from the recesses 10, 10' by a weak spring secured to one jaw portion. The portions 3, 12 may be made of wood or plastics and the ball 11 of glass. |
