PURPOSE: A discharge lamp device is provided to reduce audible sounds in the burst dimming when a voltage is not applied. CONSTITUTION: An AC conversion circuit(2) converts a DC voltage into an AC voltage by alternatively switching two switching elements or two group of switching elements. A transformer(5) boosts the AC voltage from the AC conversion circuit. A discharge lamp is connected to the secondary side of the transformer. The discharge lamp is connected to the secondary side of the transformer. The discharge lamp burst-dims a discharge lamp(6). A short circuit(4) shorts at least one of coils of the transformer for the off period of the burst dimming. |
