PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas-barrier coating composition which exhibits excellent adhesion to a substrate without an anchor layer with retention thereof even under a high humidity condition, is excellent in preservability, and has opening properties having no problem on food hygiene with retention thereof even under a high humidity condition. SOLUTION: The gas-barrier coating composition comprises the following components A, B and C, where the compounded amount of the component B is at least 0.1 pt.wt. and less than 10 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the component A, A: a polyvinyl alcohol containing an acetoacetyl group-modified polyvinyl alcohol, B: an alkoxysilane bearing an amino group and/or an imino group represented by general formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-4C alkylene group; R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each a 1-4C alkyl group; X is a hydrogen atom or an aminoalkyl group; and n is 1 or 0), (C): water or water with a lower alcohol added.
