1,249,993. Hydraulic intensifiers. GEORGE TUCKER EYELET CO. Ltd. Sept.8, 1969 [Sept.7, 1968], No.42672/68. Heading F1P. [Also in Division B3] A hydraulic intensifier 12 for a blind riveting tool comprises a sleeve 38 which is slidable relative to a hollow, stepped shaft 20 by air under pressure to cause hydraulic fluid to be forced through the shaft 20 from an annular chamber 46 formed between the sleeve 38 and shaft 20. When a valve spool (98) Fig.1 (not shown) on the riveting tool is depressed, air under pressure is admitted from a hose (100) to a hose 70 causing a piston 60 attached to the sleeve 38 to descend. Hydraulic fluid is thereby forced from the chamber 46, through passageways 47, 48 in the shaft 20, through a hose 90 and into a hydraulic cylinder (not shown) continuing a spring-biased piston which forms part of the pulling device for the rivet mandrel. When the spool (98) is released, the piston 60 is returned to its initial position. The shaft 20 is surrounded by a tube 21 between its one end and a sealing ring 56, and is provided in this area with flats (82) Fig.4 (not shown) so that the portion of the shaft 20 above the sealing ring 56 is open to atmosphere. |
